Spooky Plants by Teddy K

Welcome to my Curiosity Blog!
This year’s blog of curiosities begins with mysterious, dangerous, and horrifying plants that lurk all over the world and right under our noses.
Some plants are more dangerous than others, and some of these may be in your own back yard or garden, so be warned!
Poisonous plants from all over the world have killed people for centuries. For example, the Gympie-Gympie from Australia is so poisonous that a man, who just slightly touched one of its leaves, killed himself because the pain was so excruciating. And if a person walked into the New Zealand Nettle, its sharp “nettles’’ would pierce his skin, killing him. Then there’s the Angel Trumpet, which is so dangerous its pollen zombifies people.
Plants poison, but they also destroy. The Kudzu grows so fast that it devours cars and buildings. The Himalayan Blackberry is monstrous. The shark-like teeth of its brambles will chew you up and swallow you whole, then spit you out!
People are not the only victims of dangerous plants: pets are, too (e.g. dogs and cats). In fact, local pet hospitals and veterinary clinics publish lists of plants that kill pets, so if you have pets… BEWARE!
