The Theremin by John D.

By November 10, 2017

A Theremin is a musical instrument that makes an eerie sound. It’s described as a female voice or warbling cello. The really cool thing about it is that you don’t touch it to produce a sound. It has two antennas, one vertical and one horizontal. The vertical one controls a pitch and the horizontal one controls the volume. The musician moves his hand like a conductor to make music.
The Theremin was invented by Leon Theremin. He was born in Russia in 1896, and died at the age of 97 in 1993. He grew up fascinated with electricity and physics. He had his own laboratory in high school, and at the age of 24 he invented the theremin while experimenting with high frequency oscillators.
The Theremin was brought over to America by Theremin himself and he taught it here. It was the first electric instrument that was a mass product and is still produced today. I think the Theremin is a strange alien sounding instrument. Mr. Searby should add it to his band.
