Ranger Trap Shoot

By March 28, 2015

On March 21st the Rangers headed out to the Aurora Sportsman Club to Shoot Trap. The weather was almost perfect: blue skies, crisp fresh air, and the sound of shotguns ringing in our ears like thunder.

The Rangers, Riverside’s young outdoor adventurers, and their fathers, lined up and waited for the flying clay pigeons to launch out of the trap bunkers. Though it took a while for some to finally break a clay, some of our younger lads were amazing–naturals! One lad in particular shot almost 80%.

The trick is to keep your eye down the barrel, and make sure that you don’t let your eye follow the clay, thus leaving the barrel behind. For almost 3 hours the Rangers shot clays and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The staff at ASC were amazing, and coached each father and son during the session.

Shooting clays has been one of the most popular activities of the Rangers, though Archery and Canoe Camping are on par for popularity.

Our next activity will be an Upland Game training course–or training for a pheasant hunt.
