Fox’s Pizza in Orland Park & Mokena, Guinness, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour at our newest recording location known only as ‘The Bunker’ and this week we welcome musician, songwriter and Founder of the Riverside Club for Adventure and Imagination, Peter Searby. Peter was raised in Northern Virginia and spent over 15 years teaching in schools before creating the club a decade ago. He mentions his own difficulties at school being a factor behind founding the club and attributes his musical career to growing up with a lot of music in their home. He recounts his Irish father, Robert, singing a lot of Irish tunes at home. “I was immersed in music as a kid growing up.” Peter explains the reasons behind why he started the Riverside Club, how they encourage fathers to take part in activities with their sons and why it’s mostly home-schooled kids in attendance thanks to John Shine. “I wanted to start a program that’s dedicated to story-telling, the Arts, outdoor adventure and making and building things.” Houli recounts his own experiences at boy’s camp and these two discuss the lack of outlets for our young people. Peter treats us to some music with 2 original songs, “The Irish Bard” followed by “The Hero Song”, from one of his own musicals called “The Hedgerow”: He has an upcoming show, “Casting Fire: Catch the Spark” at the Irish American Heritage Center on Saturday, January 13th at 7pm where he will be launching his book ‘Casting Fire‘ with some special musical guests. This musical maestro ends a wonderful interview with a tune from another original musical called “The Legend of Coyote Cal”.
