The Arming Sword

By January 19, 2015

The arming sword was a standard sword for the medieval knight.  The average weight of an arming sword was 2.4 lbs.  I have several wooden swords that I use as arming swords although they probably aren’t as heavy.  The arming sword is one of my favorite swords because it can cut and thrust and it is double-edged.  It usually used with a shield  because it is shorter than other swords.  When the longsword became popular the arming sword became known as the short sword.
