Medieval Crossbows

By October 2, 2014

During Medieval Times, crossbows were a popular weapon.  There were a few different kinds.  Lighter crossbows could be cocked by hand, but bigger ones needed machines.  One of the simplest machines was a hook on the knights belt which attached to the crossbow as he pushed down on the bow.  Crossbows could be cocked and left cocked allowing the archers quicker release and better aim.  Pope Innocent II banned the use of crossbows against Christians in 1139.
