Chocolate Comes From Slimy Beans by Eamon S.

By November 12, 2017

Did you know that America’s most famous treat, chocolate, comes from little, slimy beans? I found out about this in the documentary called “Cooked.” To process these slimy cacao beans, first, take the pods and open them, and then take out the beans and ferment them. After they are fermented, they are dried. Then you take off the outer shell of the beans and roast the inside, which is called the nib. The nibs are ground and mixed with other ingredients and then pressed into a chocolate bar. I guess the beans are slimy as a defense mechanism because they taste so good!
