Read this quote from one of our Tutorial parents!
“What is so beautiful about Riverside is the culture-making aspect. It is one thing to teach children poems and songs and folklore. In a vacuum, these things will appeal to just by virtue of their natural beauty. But it is another to introduce these true and beautiful things to a group of boys who can experience them together in community–and bring them home and introduce them to their younger siblings. What is created is a common lexicon–a common culture. And this common culture takes root and takes on a life of its own, to grow in an organic way, amongst the children, the families, the neighborhood…..it’s really beautiful! Thank you!”
It gives us great delight to see that our lads are inspired and excited to be part of the Tutorial brotherhood. They are writing their own stories, radio scripts, and poems. They are observing nature with a keener eye; they are more in tune with the wonder of creation. They are motivated not by grades and tests, but by tangible end goals that are good in themselves, to show skill and mastery–a gift to be given back to the community and so enliven it–the true meaning of work.
The Tutorial is meant to bring about the new men CS Lewis speaks of in Mere Christianity: Those men who are alive to the world, who can creatively illustrate the truth, who see life as a daring journey of awakening, and who view faith as the adventurous pursuit of Our Lord.
Through the Tutorial they are becoming a true brotherhood–a vital part to our approach. We pray for them, and ask your prayers that our tutorial brotherhood may thrive in the coming years!
