Richard de Claire (Strongbow) was a Norman lord. Around 1169 a Celtic chieftain, Diarmaid Mac Murchadha, asked Strongbow to help him regain his kingdom in Ireland. Strongbow said yes, but only if he could marry the chief’s daughter. The chief said yes and Strongbow defeated the chief’s enemies and remained in Ireland and built the Christ church cathedral. When he died he was buried in the church, which we saw when we were in Dublin.
We saw the skeletons of a cat and mouse that got stuck in the organ, and we saw an effigy of Strongbow. It looked like a coffin. My brother was poking it and my mom said, “Stop touching Strongbow!” We all had a good laugh.
This is the Cosmic Celt signing out.
