Riverside Summer Counselor

Riverside is hiring Counselors for our 2022 Summer Camps. Riverside Summer Camps inspire boys & girls ages 7-14 to do, to make, to solve problems and to give of themselves.  The Counselor position will be a leadership role at our camps and overseen by the Director, Peter Searby.

We have two positions available: Summer Counselor & Ranger Counselor.  Please see the position descriptions below for each and complete the application.

Riverside Summer Counselor

Counselors take on the role of leading groups of boys & girls in the various activities at Riverside’s Camps – Folk Dance, Naturalist & Theatre. They play the role of leader and mentor to their small troupes and help them to grow in character, friendship, and faith. They help to instill a view of life as an adventurous pilgrimage to heaven.

Counselor Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Riverside’s Mission
  • Maturity in character and love of the outdoors
  • Previous experience working with boys & girls ages 7-14
  • Counselor experience is not required but preferred
  • Assist the Director in leading & set-up of camp activities
  • Supervise Areas of the Camp
  • Assist with organization and clean-up
  • 20-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday in June & July
  • Hours will be 8:30am – 3:30pm; additional hours may be assigned by the Director for meetings, trainings, late-pickups, subbing or special events.

 

Ranger Counselor

The Ranger Counselor will meet all of the requirements and responisbilities of the Summer Counselor listed above but in addition will: play the role of big brother and father to the boys in the camp, and have authority over their small troupes.  The Ranger Counselor will help lead outdoor adventure experiences where boys learn to camp, learn archery, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and learn about the natural world.

They will guide their troupes to learn the Riverside Way, a code of the adventurous and imaginative gentleman, who understand the natural world, enjoys the strenuous life of outdoor experiences, and continually seeks to build the Kingdom of Christ through his actions and prayer life. Counselors should be men of prayer, who come to camp with a desire to improve their own character and prayer life who desire to give of themselves in a joyful and energetic manner.

Activities will include – Campfires, Archery, Fishing, Kayak/Canoeing, Team Building Games, Birding, Shelter Building, Obstacle Course Races, Campfire Songs and Stories, Night Games, Cooking, Times of Prayer

Additional Ranger Counselor Duties:

  • Set up activities for games, and outdoor education
  • Supervise Areas of the Camp
  • Assist with Cooking and Clean Up
