Little is known about Scatha the Great Worm. He was perhaps the greatest of the long gray worms to infest the expansive range of the Gray Mountains. Scatha possessed a great dwarf treasure, which included Merry’s horn. Scatha was possibly one of the remnants who fled to Morgoth after the War of Wrath.
He appeared in the Third Age. Scatha lost in the duel between himself and Fram, son of Frumgar. His weapons were natural body defenses and the black speech, which was the official language of Mordor. He was a formidable opponent.
