Townsend’s Warblers are one of the most common warblers in the west behind Yellow-Rumped Warblers, Orange Crowned Warblers and Black Throated Gray Warblers, all of which you’ll learn about in our coming blog posts. During the winter, Townsend’s Warblers are mostly found on the western coast of California and in Oregon. In breeding season they are found in Washington, Idaho, northern Montana , British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, and Alaska. Townsend’s Warblers are very yellow birds with black streaks all over their body, especially on their head. Townsend’s Warblers are about 5 inches long and their song is a loud weazy-weazy-weazy-weazy-weazy-twee, which is usually repeated twice. They are not found in Illinois, other than on rare occasions. Some places I recommend looking for them include San Diego Zoo, Paradise Point Resort (both in California) and Olympic National Park in Washington.
