A dramatic reading of the Hobbit by JRR Tolkien

In this recording Tolkien reads from the chapter Riddles in the Dark. The voices he gives to Gollum and Bilbo are both fantastic. A wonderful way to help boys read is to have them reenact the scenes dramatically. At the Riverside Tutorial, our apprentices  give voice to some of the most famous characters in literature and history throughout the year. Tolkien and Lewis are the patrons of our Tutorial, and therefore their works are held in high esteem.

Tolkien was not a fan of modern technology, but he did enjoy recording dramatic readings of his books on an old recording device. We take after him at the Tutorial, and hope he is listening to us from that Rivendell in the life hereafter. We are currently recording scenes from the Fellowship of the Ring, and will post these soon! Enjoy!
